By Jeno Richard Odu.
Six months after the dissolution of the inaugural Cross River State Audit Service Commission which was headed by the former Auditor-General of the Federation, Mr. Tony Ayine, the Cross River State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment/constitution of a new Audit Service Commission.
Speaking during the confirmation, the Speaker, Hon. Alvert Ayambem, congratulated the members of the Commission for being found worthy of the assignment and stressed the need to imbibe good work ethics at all times.
He applauded the Governor, Prince Bassey Edet Otu for the choice of the nominees, noting that their appointments were apolitical , devoid of ethnic prejudices and an actual representation of the geographical spread of the State.
Speaking after the confirmation, the Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Chris Etim Nyong, described the constitution of the Commission as a demonstration of the Governor’s readiness to “resurrect Cross River State”.
He noted that the Governor has identified competent Cross Riverians that will assist him in moving the State forward.
Mr. Nyong assured that the Commission will among other things, build capacity in the management of public resources, build competence in the accountability framework of Governance and pledged to bring his wealth of experience as a former State Auditor – General who served for 17 years to bear in “supporting and rebuilding the Cross River State of our dreams”.
The newly constituted Audit Service Commission has Mr. Chris Nyong as Chairman, Sir. Charles Arako Deputy Chairman, Mr. Barthlomew Amanke, Barr. Ikona Okoi, Emmanuel Bassey Ephraim as members and Mr. Bassey Eko is to serve as Secretary.
